Sir William Blackburne

sir-william-blackburneA graduate of Cambridge University in both law and languages, Sir William was called to the Bar in 1966 and held Chambers in Lincoln’s Inn for the rest of his life at the Bar.

He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1984 and in 1993 he was appointed to the High Court, became a judge of the Chancery Division, and was knighted. In addition, between 1998 and 2003 he was Vice-Chancellor of the County Palatine of Lancaster; he also served as an elected member of the Council of the London Borough of Haringey for a total of 11 years.

He was elected a Master of the Bench of Lincoln’s Inn in 1992; has served as Dean of the Inn’s Chapel and (honorary) Keeper of its Black Books, and was Treasurer (i.e. Head) of the Inn for the year ending in December 2015.

In 1964 he made the first of very many visits to Pakistan. He has travelled extensively in the Northern Areas and is a frequent visitor to Islamabad. Since retiring from the High Court Bench in 2009 he has involved himself in numerous causes and activities. In the event, these have included the chairmanship of the Pakistan Society since 2012.
