The Committee of the Pakistan Society is delighted to announce that His Majesty the King has graciously agreed to take up the Patronage of the Society. In so doing he follows in the footsteps of his father, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who was Royal Patron of the Society from 1953 to his death in May 2021.
In a message of thanks to the King the outgoing chairman of the Society stated that the news will bring joy to every member of the Society and to the many others in the UK and Pakistan who cherish the historic and important connection between the two countries.
Editor’s note: The Pakistan Society is unique in that its co-patrons are the holder of the office of President of Pakistan and, with His Majesty’s acceptance, the sovereign head of the United Kingdom.
Founded in 1951 and based in London, The Pakistan Society is a bilateral organisation with some five hundred members, most of whom are almost equally divided between those of British and Pakistani origin. The Society aims to increase public knowledge in Britain of the arts, history, geography, economic life and institutions of Pakistan. It does this through a series of lectures, meetings and social events, usually held at the High Commission for Pakistan. Its patrons are HM The King and HE The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
